View Photo Database AC Fiorentina have been sold to an unnamed businessfig from the nation of Legaņa the club's former board of directors have confirmed. Former president Andrea Della Valle confirmed the news before handing in his resignation. Mr Della Valle said he could work with the new owners but would need to be invited back to do so. He also added that he was "pleased" with the £19.8m sum earned by the sale.

Meanwhile fans of the Viola are understood to be excited at the news of a new owner. With the club still in a chance of claiming a promotion place to Serie A, the supporters feel that the off-the-field morale boost by the takeover might just be enough for the team to gather momentum in the league. The club, who have had just one previous spell in Serie A in the 1998/1999 season, lie in 5th place, 1 point adrift of third placed Airport Lane.

Can the Viola get promoted or is the takeover too late?
